Improve your dressmaking skills and learn to make the Closet Case Patterns Kalle Shirt or Shirt Dress using viscose....Read more
Skill Level: Intermediate
Do you love the idea of making garments using lightweight fabrics for the warm weather but the thought of working with them makes you break out into more of a sweat than a day on a hot beach?! Well, come along to this workshop and make your very own viscose Kalle Shirt or Shirt Dress, which is sure to become one of your wardrobe staples. I personally have three at the time of writing and I don't intend on stopping there!
With a loose, body skimming silhouette and a number of interchangeable features, the Kalle Shirt & Shirtdress is the ultimate in chic, easy dressing. View A is cropped with a wide faced hem, View B is a tunic length shirt inspired by classic men's oxfords, and View C is a stylish shirtdress with a high-low hem. All versions feature a subtly curved yoke, kimono sleeves with arm cuffs, and a dramatically shaped hem. Personalise your Kalle with a standard or band collar, an optional breast pocket, an inverted or box pleat, and button, popover or hidden placket.
This is an excellent progression from our Beginners Dressmaking course as you will be expected to know your way around a sewing machine with minimal supervision and how to cut out a pattern at home without the aid of a safety net.
During this course you will learn the following techniques:
- Pattern matching (if a patterned fabric is used)
- Accurate measuring and making slight pattern alterations to ensure a good fit
- Making a collar
- Sewing buttonholes and plackets
- Making pleats
- Working with French seams (my all time fave!)
- Working with a curved dipped hem
- Making pockets
Phew!! It’s tiring just reading that list, never mind working your way through it, but you will truly be on your way towards being a Sew-Master General after this course!
The price of the course includes:
- Expert tuition
- Sewing pattern (option for without if you already have it!)
- Choice of fabric
- Use of a sewing machine
- Notions & tools
- Tea, coffee and cake
If you already have the pattern, just select the option to exclude the pattern when booking.
NOTE: THIS PATTERN GOES UP TO UK SIZE 20. IF YOU FALL OUT OF THIS, PLEASE CONTACT US BEFORE BOOKING SO WE CAN OFFER AN ALTERNATIVE PATTERN.
So the garment can be made in the time allowed, we will need you to cut out your pattern and fabric before you arrive for the workshop. If you are unable to do this at home or don't feel confident enough to do it on your own, then you are welcome to come and use the workshop at selected times beforehand.
Anyone attending a workshop also receives a whopping 15% discount in the shop on the days of their workshop!*
*Excludes gift vouchers and sale items. Not to be used in conjunction with any other offer.
Please refer to our Workshop T&Cs before making your booking.
