(Basic dressmaking experience is required)
This overlocking workshop is for those who have been brave enough to purchase an overlocker but haven't quite got to grips with it yet or it's actually still sat in it's box! The 1st step in getting to know your overlocker is to GET IT OUT OF THE BOX! Once you do actually get it out of the box and take the time to get to know your overlocker, you will love it just as much as your trusty sewing machine. You won't know how you ever managed without it and you will be so pleased with that professional looking finish you will want to wear garments inside out just to show them off! Practice makes perfect, so don't give up too soon, keep at it & your confidence will grow the more you use it.
What will we do:
In this session we will look at the basic anatomy of the machine, what's different about it to your sewing machine, what it can actually do and getting comfortable in starting to sew with it. You will learn how to thread it from scratch with the use of tweezers which can feel like a game of Operation but no loud buzzers! Once all threaded up and sewing correctly we will check your tensions and how to adjust depending on the types of fabrics you use. At the end of this session you will have hopefully familiarised yourselves with your own machine to then move on to one of our Overlocker Techniques Workshops.
We will provide:
- General sewing equipment
- Tea, coffee and biccies
What you will need to bring:
- Your own overlocker, with it's foot pedal (which is always useful), instruction manual (if you have one) and an overlocking tool kit (usually comes with the machine) which should include, spare needles, tweezers etc
- Overlocker thread
- Anything specific to eat and drink for your own dietary requirements
